Last night (February 5, 2025) The Zine Club Columbus and the Wex's Community Studio offered up a free zine studio... Complete with materials for everyone attending to make zines and a big ole' box zines for free/trade. (As you can see in the pic of my haul below, a good chunk of the ones in the box when I got their were Anti-ICE. It's great to see members of the community using a mini-zine format to get heard!)
Owing more to my hermit-like existence than anything else, I've definitely felt a little outside the local comics and zines community in recent years. It was time to stick my toe back in that pool, despite still-frigid temperatures in Columbus.
I haven't had a chance to give any of these a good read yet. In fact I just realized that I grabbed two copies of one title. Whoops! There were a bunch more titles, I think, but honestly I wanted to give a shot at a quick zine myself.... So I grabbed a random-ish pile, dropped off the Nix zines that I brought for trade, and went to work!

The comic/zine I busted out was titled "Doilie Dan, Private Dick." There were a bunch of doilies available in the art supplies for Valentine's themed projects, so I decided to go with those as my pages/panels. After six pages describing my erstwhile detective and his lack of casework, I stapled them together between two pieces of cardstock and dropped the finished product in the trade box. (Someone got a one-a-kinder!)
Oh... And Hey... I also poked my head inside of the Wex Gift Shop. I picked up a copy of the issue of Maggot Brain with an article on Jenny Mae. I knew I was quoted in it, but I never bothered to pick up a copy to see what I said!
All in all, a great reason to get out and back into the swing of the Columbus Small Press scene!
