Cool Cartoon Record Sleeves and Art #2
BATTLE OF THE GARAGES Voxx Records: VXS 200.006 (1981) Here’s my second-in-series of Blog posts about records* in my collection with cool cartoon art.** Check out the companion series of posts about rock 'n roll comics.*** Make with the clicks if you want to see all of the posts. The Art/Artist: This record was a keeper from my retail days, coming to me in a large collection of garage-punk type records that I got on-line. (You used to be able to cruise ebay for cool record

Cool Rock 'n Roll Comics #1
MADHOUSE no. 95 Red Circle Comics (June 1974) Cover by Gray Morrow. New logo for the change to a horror anthology format, but that's probably not Morrow. I love how the vamp is jauntily dangling his leg over the edge of the coffin! (It looks a little added on due to an editorial note. Per my post earlier this week, I'm going to start posting little blog highlights of records that come with cool cartoon/comic art and cool rock 'n roll comics* from my coll

Cool Cartoon Record Sleeves and Art #1
The Tommyknockers: Caught Dead Inside Unique Records: UNR 33002.8 (1990) I'm gonna start posting and talking about records* with cool cartoon art** in my collection. I may also do a companion series of posts about rock 'n roll comics.*** Admittedly, I've tried to do this type of thing before, and never got enough personal traction to keep it going for any length of time, but maybe this time it will take... Besides I just bought this cool record! The Art/Artist: I bought thi

2026 Nix Comics Pre-Order Campaign Report
It's the middle of June and the dust has finally settled from the 2026 Pre-Order Campaign and I have myself together enough to report out to the "inside small-press" type fans. Overall, it was a success despite some fairly significant set backs. My specific goals were: 1) Avoid what I hate about third party crowd-funder platforms but duplicate results 2) Pay Artists a Decent Rate despite "spec" arrangement. 3) Use Sponsorship Packages to both fund and distribute comics. Cancellation Notice- The Collected Rockin’ Bones TPB
I’m afraid that I have bad news: I have to cancel pre-orders for the Collected Rockin’ Bones Trade Paperback. Unfortunately, Darren has had a computer crash and the majority files/pages needed to complete the book are currently inaccessible. Both Darren and I are frustrated as it seemed that this project that we’ve both been working towards for over a decade finally seemed to be a “sure thing.” The Pre-Order campaign for Flipside of Love #1 and Undead Ballads #1 will continue

15 Years of Nix: Reflections and Gratitude #3
It's been turning in my head for a while, about how lucky I am that circumstances have allowed me to publish Nix Comics for 15 years. So many people, places, and events that had to fall into place to get to this point. I've decided that I need to take the days leading up to the sharing my thoughts on it and thanking everybody who helped me get here. (Opening Confession: I won't be able to fully reflect on the circumstances or give full gratitude to everybody who deserves it

Zine Making Studio 2-5-2026
Last night (February 5, 2025) The Zine Club Columbus and the Wex's Community Studio offered up a free zine studio... Complete with materials for everyone attending to make zines and a big ole' box zines for free/trade. (As you can see in the pic of my haul below, a good chunk of the ones in the box when I got their were Anti-ICE. It's great to see members of the community using a mini-zine format to get heard!) Owing more to my hermit-like existence than anything else, I've

Nix Comics 2025 End of Year Update
2025 Objectives: I really only had one firm objective for 2025, and that was to release issues #8 and #9 of Tales from the Crate and Volume #3 of Sketchbook Picture Sleeves. I got that done early in the year! This opened up the rest of the year to... well... fuck around with things. Still a bit covid lagged, but also looking forward to 2026 as the 15th anniversary year of publishing, I needed that freedom. Time to assess how Nix has changed over the years, and maybe to reass

Nix Comics Record Wrap!
While in previous years I kept track of the records that I listened to on a daily basis, this year I didn't feel like keeping track.... Though when people started talking about their "Spossify wraps" and the new "listening Age" thing that was tied into it, I felt like maybe I should do something to talk about the expression of my musical tastes in 2025. It occurred to me that while I didn't do a log of everything-what-I-listened-to, I did by track all the records that I bou

12 Inch Sleeves Don't Fit In My Sketchbook
As many of you know, I have an ongoing project called "Sketchbook Picture Sleeves." The basic idea is that I take 7" records and draw my own picture sleeve for them. A nearly full gallery of these can be found here . From time to time people ask me if I will to branch out into 12" records. The answer is that I do, but not as often. I guess maybe because they are definitely not "sketchbook" projects, being too big to fit in a sketchbook. Maybe because its harder to find good
